If your using windows xp you need to go to control panel, look for languages and activate the asian language pack, then you choose the option for japanese and your off.
As for learning japanese, try and learn hiragana or katakana asap. DONT use romaji, it holds you back allot. People will tell you romaji is great, its not at all.
