Oh, wow. They're really making it a world-wide premiere, aren't they? I guess Japanese animation corporation figured online subbers are too many to stop completely and decided to try their hand at it.

I hope this stunt becomes successful. It would be awesome if other anime start being telecast during or near their premieres in Japan.

By the way, cnav, you know what happened to the first thread? The one you started too?

why are they starting the anime from scratch again though? someone just decided they want it to be directed differently?

Are they? Probably because there were a lot of plot diversions from the first anime. This one is rumored to strictly adhere to what happens in the manga, and a lot of things happening in the manga right now won't make sense/are contradicted by what happened in the original anime.

Instead of a retcon/excuse/excessive dialogue to twist things to coherence, a new anime from scratch is probably easier.

I doubt if the plot would be "totally different" cnav, but yeah, it would be relatively different.
I haven't read the manga, so I was able to follow the anime well. I guess that's why I was wondering why the second direction.

"Instead of a retcon/excuse/excessive dialogue to twist things to coherence, a new anime from scratch is probably easier." Yes, corporeality, that's true. Thanks. Otherwise, the original story would be completely distorted.

And I just finished watching "Conqueror of Shambala".. damn, it was awesome. =D I would use the word, "loaded". ;)
How come the manga is still going on? The movie seemed like it concluded the whole series. O_o Another deviation from the plot?

Oh, and corporeality, another new series, "Tears to Tiara", is also being simultaneously aired with the Japanese premiere. :) On Animax.

TheThirdEye, the manga story is WAY bigger in scope, and it definately need to be still going, although it's sadly heading towards a conclusion. I watched the anime first and originally didn't want to read the manga because I was so fond of the anime story...but when I did, I was very impressed.

Basically (and it's not quite this simple), you know in the anime where they go see Izumi, find out about homunculi, and it sets in motion the story and ideas that will eventually lead to Dante and Hohenheim? What you learn there is about how human alchemy works. Well, in the manga, homunculi don't work the same way, and what they learn at Izumi's still sets the path for later stuff, but it's a very different path.

If you're wondering why the difference, the anime version caught up to what manga had been published at the time, so they went off on their own story - still good, but not the originally intended direction, and there are a few early things that make more sense in the development of the manga. The manga version also takes you further afield (to the northern border of Amestris, to the demolished country of Xerxes to the east, and characters from Xing, way east) and links in more characters. People like Greed, Kimblee, Marcoh, get bigger parts, too.

I highly recommend the manga, even if the first few chapters will cover pretty much the same as the anime. Failing which, see what you think of FMA2. They're going to start it with some fill-in episodes, I think, covering quickly the beginning, so they can run into the newer story - that's what it looks like. But trust us when we say there's a BIG story to be told, same characters we love, different stories, cosmologies, and alchemy.

    Sorry for the rant *^_^*
