Commenting on GFX Battles and SOTW

here is something that is ment to be discussed properly. ^^

It's not my stile that I'm losing confidence in, but it's the way the votes are given. I don't understand why people need to see a name before the sig and I don't get it why people don't comment the sigs. Some do, but very few of them. Also, I have a scan group, I like to wantch anime and read manga. It's not like I have all the time in the world to practice nor do I have the motivation to do so when I see that some vote the name and not the sig. And I'm not referring to my challenges right now.
@Sadina, the purple sig was a disaster. Just brushes stamped everywhere and some lightning effect. I thought the text will save it but it didn't. My last sig [the summer one] is one of my best work and you won't see another one coming to soon because I'm really depressed right now.

And I think this is my 5'th competition and I haven't received not even 1 useful comment till now. Except for Yoko that told me I need to improve my blending. So I've realised that this chalenges won't help me improve very much. They will just make me sad when I'll see that a sig [that I can do in 30 minutes] wins over sigs that you need hours to work on. I'm not pointing at anyone, maybe I'm wrong, but that's what I feel when looking at some. Heck, one even look like a crop without a border...

I'll still work in photoshop. I'll try to help out in the banner section ^^.

i get what you are saying about commenting, but personally, i dont think i have to much to comment about, but ill be nice to get a feedback, and for most of the sigs i sow, i did not get the feeling they werent worked on, as for my own, i can say ive worked on them, even if it might mot look like it, and turned out they way they did
but i get the fact that you are busy, i was as well so i havent had much time either

i can comment, but sometimes i feel like is not my place to do that since im a noob, and i mostly like to say about the style and the feeling the sigg gives, and dont know to say much about technique

as for the names, i dont know about outers, but the first thing i do is look at the sigs, and not at the name

as for the summer sig, ill give some feedback as what i think about it, just it wont be very technical, that if you like, and to be honest i worked on mine, but it did not come out how i liked it, that was the best i could do

@guns: I recommend you to use brushes. It's really hard to make a sig only from effects, especially when you're still a beginner. And I wasn't referring to you when I said that users don't provide with comments. I would like to read comments from experienced people that hardly ever vote, not to mention comment... or else I really can't improve.

@ Tessa- I think the reason they don't really comment is because they've got a specific thread for C&C in the Graphics section. I don't know if you've posted there >.> but you generally get some comments and tips once you post your work there. There are times when it goes unnoticed too. So having said that, the voting thread is really more about just posting who you're voting for. I think we could have a nice discussion there but I haven't seen it happening ever since I joined here :\ But hey, there's always a first time! :D

I don't post my work much in the GFX display thread but whenever I did I got some C&C from others, specially Draak, DP, Ueki, Amiya and Hitagi. Right now, all I think I can do is comment, I can't really give any critique or tips to improve for 2 main reasons. I am new to this myself, and I'm using a VERY OBSOLETE OUTDATED version of photoshop, I don't even get to use the tuts because the new CS versions of photoshop has so many different features o.o So there's a lot more to learn! xD And you can always ask the other gfx guys for c&c, some people tend to get offended when getting some negative comments and that makes people hesitant to give out comments or tips unless the person asks for it.

Regarding the looking at the name and voting, well that tends to happen but it's not the case with everyone. When I won my first 1vs1 challenge nobody really knew me here but they still voted. Probably because it was different if not nicer than the other one xD But it's always tough when you go head to head with all the pros like we do in the sotw challenges >.>

Don't be depressed dear, I was finally so happy to have more girls around. Really!! Together, we'd get better :3 Now that I know you're open to criticism and suggestions, I'll be giving them to you and you can always ask for advice whenever needs be. I'll try my best :)

PS: Also, there are 2 tutorials by Aca on one thread, I wonder if you've seen those? Those were quite helpful, answered a lot of my questions about how to make a basic sig. They helped me immensely and I finally knew I was doing it right because initially I felt kind of lost as to where to begin or how to do it. You should see those if you haven't =)

Hmm, depending on this challenge and the comments in the purple one I shall see, although I doubt my opinions can change a system. And even is someone might seem offended, it doesn't mean it applies to everyone.
And I still support the anonymous voting. Enlist for the official competition.

Offtopic: I just wanted to say that your current sign is awesome. I forgot to enter in the finals to vote for it, thought it wouldn't have made much of a difference :( .

As far as votes being given to names rather than the actual sig is concerned. They did it a while ago but I don't really know what happened, it was before I joined. I guess people are so much aware of the gfxer's style now, specially the big guns that putting the name really doesn't matter anymore >.>

and just like you, im lazy as well, sometimes i cant find the motivation, plus in challenges there usually is a theme, so i can try that too

im more unsure of myself, but here is a nice community, well in the end is up to you tessa-chan, is not like someone is or will fore you, its all up to you, but i hope ill get to see your creations

Well as ACA-san always say, this is not a gfx forums, this is an anime forum.
So basically most members are here for talk about their fav anime and so on. So it is rather difficult to expect more than a handfull of CnC in a battle thread or a SOTW.
and ppl just say "x" gmv to confirm their vote (just in case their hand slip..etc) and to keep the thread active so other members can notice it ^^

even tho there are instances where members give very useful input for a sig maker using his/her best knowledge. So dont be sad, and it is never a waste to compete, cause through competiton a person can improve by constructive non depressive self criticism ;)
