Default Giant Killing — At Last, A Real Soccer Anime

This is a nice little Football (or Soccer) Anime started before the World Cup 2010. I got to say that this anime wasn’t the first priority for me to watch this season. And to think I was going to watch Hakuoki instead of this one >.<

    What's Hot?

    - The main character, Tatsumi, is a manager and has a very cool personality.
    - Great animation! You can see that from the football matches.
    - Characters are portrayed really well.
    - The opening theme 'My Story ~Mada Minu Ashita e~' by THE CHERRY COKES and the ending theme 'Get tough!' by G.P.S' are very fun to listen to.

    What's Not?
    - Nothing!

Giant Killing is a soccer (or Football as it called here) anime, which is just intriguing to watch, given the the realistic theme in this anime. There is no such impossible burning shot or shot that pierce through the goal net. I’ll say it bluntly, this anime is no Captain Tsubasa nor Prince of Tennis, which makes this anime very special.

The impression I got from the manga and how the main character, Tatsumi Takeshi (Seki Tomokazu), loves playing the underdog and uses seemingly unorthodox strategies to guide his teams to victory. The first episode served as an introduction to all that, and depicted how he had taken an amateur club to the final 32 in the FA Cup in only a few short years. Now that may not sound like much, but when you consider that the FA Cup is a tournament where all the professional teams compete in, it really puts things into perspective. I might spoil things if i go on, so do Watch the First Episode.

Anyway, this is why I love anime. There just are those times when these series come around, who completely exceed my expectations. It’s been ages since Studio Deen really came out with a new and fresh premise, so I wasn’t expecting much of them at this point (as shown by Hakuouki, which pretty much was them and their bishies again).

The first episode starts off WELL made. The characterization is by far the best of all the first episodes I’ve seen this season so far. It’s only one episode, and the creators have already shown that they know and understand their characters. The chemistry between the hugely varied cast was just awesome to watch. And on top of that, they actually portrayed English football fans really well, INCLUDING actual English, that gets spoken in full sentences, rather than your usual lazy Engrish.

I’ve been dreaming for an excellent sports theme anime after Slam Dunk and this anime settles my thirst. A great sports anime with realistic yet entertaining plot.

    Ep 25
    :

The evolution of the ETU really does come through here, though it points them in the right direction rather than bringing them to a conclusion (more could read i n the Manga). With one more episode to go, and no known second season that I'm aware of..

what we get here is definitely a spot on culmination of their achievements that shows us just how much they've grown and how far they still have to go. Giant Killing has been one of my favorite shows of the season for watching character growth and performance growth and this episode did not disappoint in the slightest, from solid animation, great character moments and wonderful Football/soccer action.
