    One-Liners ruin my fun

    Hey guys!

Im angry at one-liners and people who reply fast with no effort! What do you think about them?

You see a very nice thread "e.g. currently reading" in the manga section. With the note:
We'll give this a second chance. But put effort into your posts. Include what your thoughts are on the chapter ect.
Good, quality content is what we're looking for.

And the first page you see really nice posts and the normal spammers who want being active but are also extremly boring and filling the thread with thrash.
So what I did: I gave information about my manga, e.g. genre, plott, art, thoughts.
    One-Liner: "currently reading bleach 450 "

When I read this im like: wtf! The reply of this user will make sure that this thread is being closed again.

I want to give useful information about the manga or give people a chance to read something very good. Like here is a picture of the art or that or this was pretty different and cool from the normal cliche-manga.

If im the 5% in the thread who really want to post something good and the rest is spamming why should I post anymore? People who are really interested will get sick or lose interest in the topic after reading 2 pages.

I am wasting my time!? Or are the one-liners just can't think of others ? Or dont care.
Better leave this forum or look for some diamonds?

Should a forum should be like this? Everyone posting a line and no real information comes together? Please share your opinion ;-)

    i don`t mind... (post finished^^)
no, seriously I think they aren`t that bad. Sure, you donīt get any information from them but there are just some topics like the currently reading thread which look as if hey were just about one-liners. In reality there are always people as well who are too lazy to say something, and just throw some sentence in the middle of a conversation just to hear their own voice. And because a foum should be kind of a special part of society online it`s just natural for them to exist here as well^^

Well, although you do have a point there, I believe that sometimes posting a one-lined answer is all one can do ^^ Hell, I often post a one-line comment :D
The reasons for that might be, well, pretty much anything... It's probably about the need to respond as fast as you can, according to the living style of our world today :P You shouldn't get too worked up about it anyway, not worth it :O

My advice is, if you really wanna see people write a bit more, make an interesting thread or something... It might just work ^^

Hmm I agree with 100dak over there. I try not to post one-liners, but I often do because I don't know what else to say. But for example in that thread I would post more than one line because it requires it and for a thread in the debate section then yes, one line is not enough to support your arguement and I believe you should write one sentence or more.
However, I understand the spamming thing, people are just using it to their advantage and want to increase their post-count, but I say let them. Even if it is only 5% at least there is a percentage, and something is better than nothing. For the spammers, let them spam or ban them if they get out of hand. I think that is all we can do about it.

Sometimes I hate them, sometimes I don't really care.

Well, lately I've come to dislike one line spam that is often passed off as 'post' on the forum, specially in threads that require some sort of an explanatory reply. I'd go to post somewhere and I see all these teeny tiny replies and it annoys the hell out of me and I often end up not posting there. This has much to contribute to the decline in my posting around the forum. So I totally agree with you that one liners ruin posting for me :\

Forums are made for interaction and I personally love discussions and stuff but such posts defeat the purpose in my opinion.

@l00dark - That doesn't really work. The post quality seems to be declining overtime, I created a movie review thread that requires just a bit of one's opinion on whatever movie they've watched recently and very few people post there. And there are plenty of interesting topics but we still get these posts. Kind of disappointing really.

Same goes for 'what book are you reading' and 'Current manga' threads. I initially enjoyed posting there, not so much now.

I'm not really sure how this can be controlled. I mean normally when a thread is making it's way to spamville, there's a warning and for a little while we get sensible posts. I wonder if we'd still get one line posts in abundance had the colored ranks not existed. I remember some time back, the spam was getting out of control and the mods issued strict warnings and even an announcement was made, AA actually became a ghost town after that for a while. No body posted :s

We've got so many spam threads outside of the 'spam section' anime abbreviation threads that's abused morning noon and night, best looking anime guys/girls with pictures of the same characters being repeated on every page - Heaven for spammers. And there are probably a lot more.

I probably have had my share of one line posts in a few threads earlier on but now if I'm feeling lazy/tired/sleepy to post longish replies, I usually stick to the 'spam section'

Well, I post one-liners: but that's only when I think: "I can't post anything more"
    Like the thread: currently reading..
I post: newest chap of fairy tail.. And that's it, because I'm reading that. I could say: oh my god I loved this one, I think this and this and that about that chapter:
What did that mean? or something like that.. but there is the manga discussion thread for. (which I use for FT)
I understand your frustration but if you would look further you'll see that threads like the discussion thread is filled with great posts and theories.
Ofcourse there are people who say a short thing. But you shouldn't work up about such minor issues.
If you are in a community nothing will be in the exact the same way as you wish it to be.. not everyone shares your precise points of view.

And I find it logic to respond at a thread: what are you reading atm. To just post, what are you reading :P
If there stands: what are you reading and what do you think about it: well that's something completely different.. but then you can better go to a manga discussion thread or make one so you'll have only people talking about that manga and not getting ignored because other people are reading other things.

Well, that's my point of view about this topic

@sadin: the thing is that sometimes, the people are just limited :S or simply young and have no idea what replying to a thread on a forum means... as disappointing as that might be, that's the truth and I can see the end of this forum communication style since less and less people can be bothered to write something in more than one sentence...

and another thing, I don't think that it's quantity that matters, but quality instead ! so it's not about how much you read, it's about what you read imo

WoW!!! Thanks for replys! You did great!

I'm happy that people share a similiar opinion and I'm not the lonesome wolf brooding about spam and ham while crying at the moon. (:

@Stilzkin - You have good point saying - some threads are usually made for spam. Like "best looking[insert here]-thread". And you see the results! Lots of short anwsers - many people can share their opinion, many get their post-count up. Whatever people read the first page and last page and then anwser.

@l00dak and sprog - You both have a similiar opinion. You sometimes can't say more than a one-liner and sometimes you don't know what else to say. Do you think its possible to make an anime-thread that impossible to anwser with a one-liner and its no debate?!

    How my forum should be.
Check my viewpoint: We three meet at some animeconvention in a burning summer everyone sweating like hell and we have a talk about anime. ;-)

Me: Omg guys - I saw this anime with the supernice artwork, best seiyuus. The maincharacter are somewhat different from clichee... blabla emotional rollercoaster blabla
    oneliner-herp: I saw bleach, episode 50.
oneliner-derpina: Yesterday I bought code geass.

I know what your thinking this conversation is awkward. Wouldnt it be better if everyone contributed about the same quality. Making jokes about the endless filler from bleach and talking about reasons why you bought that anime. In the end everyone had a good time :). The forum should be a like a conversation. And not people chat past each other.

@sadiaanwar - What do you think about it. You make your own-review thread and can set up a word-limit. With 50 words you can reply. That would be interesting cause only people who are really interested would write more like 50 words and spammer wouldnt make the work to do so. Or do you think it is bad. Naturally later on the thread the post will get smaller. Maybe people who post a reply with 50 words can anwser normaly after that. What do you think about that?

@iLium - You think posting one-liner in currently reading is okay - even if at the first post is mentioned: Put effort in your posts or thread will be closed again.

I don't think you aren't able to put more effort into it. You just getting the thread wrong. The thread is not about what "chapter are you reading" The thread is about what are you currently reading and put effort into your reply otherwise its closed.

And in opinion I would find it nice if you would write something like that.
[Manga xxx] was [xxx] because of [xxx]. Genre [xxx] Try it.

Can you proof me wrong? :)

I know most people just post the name and chapter # of the manga they're reading but it makes it a much more read worthy post if they'd put in a bit more about it. Also, there's a big variety of manga and many not as main stream as the common Bleach, Fairy tail etc and there aren't any separate threads allotted to them.

Sure, one could argue I could always post for recs but I'm just saying, for me, reading posts on a forum is almost as fun as writing. I truly enjoy them even though they're difficult to come by most times :)

I suppose we have various degrees of spammers. For me it gets irksome when person X posts 'I read so and so" and person Y comes and posts after them only to have person X drop another book/manga title in their post a few mins later >.>

Well you do have a point there. Quality posts however do need some substantial matter :)

@ Lium - It's obvious from your post count you're not one of those people who keep posting spam to get to the next color. Many a times I've actually picked up reading a manga because somebody had posted a little of the story and it intrigued me. Same goes for the book thread :)

And yes, it really is bad. What DG says is pretty much true. Posts/threads that invite discussion are ignored most of the time and usually locked and put away after 3-4 weeks of going unanswered. The lists, pictures, titles thread however race away to their 100th post an hour after they're created sometimes even less than an hour because apparently as long there are two people to post, they can keep posting.

@ SOC4real - Well, I did make my thread strictly A movie review thread which is why I mentioned earlier that very few people post there. Just a couple of regular movie watchers who put in their review. Though I'm sure as a community, we're watching like 1000's of movies daily.

EDIT - Whoa, I took so long too post that 3 new posts materialized before mine :P

No I can't proof you wrong, but I can't proof you right either.
because it's mine interpretation of the thread. If I want to discuss or express my thoughts about the manga I'll go to the discussion thread for that manga :)
And ok, you've got me at one point: I didn't read the first post, and acted on what the title said.. and pretty much everyone.
I don't think it would be closed by the one liners, it just might be transferred to the spam/chat area

But I see your point, and if you are happy to see it. I'll double post my experience about that manga. In the discussion channel and what are you currently reading.
But still.. The title says: what are you reading :P If you want to fix the one-liners, fix the title ;)
Because if someone misenterprets the title, more will surely =)
