@SOC and DG...Now that I can agree with. I have never believed in the post count thing, and I think the reputation is more important. For example, to claim characters or for joining the AA Family Tree, it should be based on the amount of rep you have and not your post count because people abuse the whole post count thing. A lot of newbies join and start posting random unrelated things to any of the topics, just to improve their count. I think they see it as a competition that they must win instead of understanding that it is more to show how much you have actually contributed towards the forum. So you're right, they are seeing it as a way to look cooler I guess like in Facebook ect. where you see people posting what food they ate ect. which is completely annoying to others because they don't care what food you ate.

But I do think it is ok if people contribute a little, even if it is one line (as long as it is related to the topic). However, if the thread asks for specific information, then they should give the information, and not post one line. It all depends on the thread, however anything worthless and unrelated shouldn't be there at all (in proper discussion- not spam threads) and users who spam in threads that shouldn't be spammed in, should get a warning a ban or whatever o.o
    I haz claimed!!

I don't mind them, I do them myself occasionally. Sometimes there really not that much to say, but you still want your opinion heard. It only annoys me when it's all the time, that's all a person posts. Or when everyone else writes paragraphs and then one person writes a one liner and then everyone assumes it's a spam thread and posts more one liners >_>
I prefer when everyone says a lot, but it's okay to say a little here and there.

    Thanks Mykka!

Heres an extract from a conversation I had earlier I think it covers my opinion on the matter

The forum is becoming less like a forum and more like facebook or twitter. Which is a pity because it really doesn't take much to put together a decent post and the more people do it the easier it gets to make longer posts because its actually like having a conversation and you have a vested interest and want to contribute something of substance. Even the rubbish threads like what was the x thing you ever x'ed have the potential to be good entertaining threads if people bothered to explain why they chose a certain thing to be the x thing the ever x'ed then other people could reply directly and give their opinions on the other persons comment leading to a discussion taking place.

    1. Laziness brought on by facebook culture, alot of people use facebook which fosters a culture of clicking like or posting short statements not actually carrying out discussions the main problem is that the forum isn't personal like facebook so the short posts lack the level of personal intimacy that they do on facebook leaving them shallow and meaningless on this forum and best relegated to the spam section and user profiles.
    2. The post counter, its like the rep counter people started rep rings to have the prestige of a high rep count rendering it meaningless when it was in fact originally intended as recognition for good service to the forum. If people didn't get the "impressive" number under their name I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be bothered posting in the rubbish threads unless there was some point they really wanted make.

The first you mentioned there is what I think too (after reading that of course, I never really thought of it before). People, myself included, are so use to writing simple thing like "idk" "k" and "XD" for response that it's difficult to come up with much to say when we actually want/have to.

As for high post counts and such...I mean, I see how some people would want to try to get a higher count because I guess it would be like leveling up in a videogame (lol that's just how my mind works) or any other goal to reach.

Myself, I post a lot, but that's because I really like talking // and since I tend to be really shy offline (but I'm getting better! :D), I guess I put all that talking in to here (?) I'm assuming that most people here are as big of geeks as I am and don't really talk too much in class or at work and so maybe other people kind of do that sort of thing too.

    Thanks Mykka!

The oneliners aren't so bad if people at least make an effort to converse and comment on what others say though with that said it can still cause downward spiral towards rubbish and spam especially as it can result in very little being said

Personally, I think it all depends on the situation.

In the spam/chat section that is all for the one-liners whereas the debate section is not. I sometimes post one-liners as a result of not knowing what to say but I don't actually mind them. In certain sections of the forums I don't think they should be posted as often but if necessary, then I don't really mind^_^

I'll show you a sweet dream next night...

@SOC - Hmm, not to beat a dead horse but to simply put in my own opinion even if only 5% of the population did post a "real" post, wouldn't it still be worth it just to converse with them? I'm sure people are more patient than that. The ones that are still around on the forums should be anyways. And there are times where one-line is all most people can say (of course this was stated many times by others but I'm simply expressing agreement with their statements). A large number of forums are probably like this but it is more than likely impossible to regulate what people post, despite how limited it is.

Well by nature most posters are lazy. Forget about reading the whole thread before they post they dont even read the OP (opening post) so you cannot expect everyone to always write decently either. And different people come to forums with different purposes some to take part in interesting discussions, some just to socialize or some just to plain stalk! I know its annoying to see one liners and effortless posts but some people are only capable of that all you can do is either ignore them or mods hand out warnings which will only discourage more posters. The discussions threads are still smaller in here which lasts most 10 pages to read, I have seen forums in which threads end up with 1000 pages in weeks and gets closed and in that 1000 pages 700-800 pages would be just 1 liner trash (yes I have too much free time). Just visit any game forum you will see. Compared to all the forums I have been AA is a troll free paradise thanx to our mods. Even I ended up being a troll there coz thats how negative the forum was XD

When you are posting stop comparing your effort to the effort of others. Just be happy that you made a satisfying post and rejoice when others do the same ignoring the one liners. Look at your hands, you do not have all the fingers of same size do you? same way you cannot have everyone as creative as you. There will always be one liners specially if the thread doesnt ask much. But if you want to change that create threads that can generate discussions and make people write more and more just like this thread did. I am sure it did get the attention of those who write one liners and will try to change their ways.
thnx to mica (my AA wife) for the great idea and DarkPro for the massive tweaks^_^
