    Default Minecraft

oh I'm not minecraft player, I just saw this on internet how popular game is!
I mean is it just internet bluff or really is that popular? like angry birds.

spending vacation at home town, our family home, I keep witnessing my brother plays minecraft from the moment he wakes till he pass out! oh I can't do that, I have life lol
I mean what's really interesting about the game? don't get me wrong, I used to be game nerd like you fellows but found out many games doesn't profit at all: they teach you nothing (mostly FPS) and nothing achieved in the game gonna help anyway in your life.
though pretty fan of RPG and strategy games, since RPG makes my literary and psychological skills sharp while strategy does makes one to think ahead.
mostly I like games because of storyline and I only buy FPS for that and not because of anything else; they're just far better action, psychological, crime movies which we can play the role of first character than movies which we have to sit and watch... usually I can empathize with character of both way but game sounds more intriguing.

digressed enough, I want to know the truth.
well don't let the thread be limited to my question, you fellows can have your own topic, since I was just an "outsider" who wanted to know why it took my dear brother from me T.T

XD Im writing on a pad so excuse some typos. I play minecraft regularly and... its really hard to explain to others. It isnt really a game where there is stories, plots or objectives... you're just plopped into a world and told to live. It is as interesting and as fun as what you make it. XD the best thing i can compare it too is legos without instructions. The whole world is destructable/buildable and the whole point is to get Food to live, Tools to mine and minerals to build anything you can dream up. XD or you can explore caves and jungles for loot and treasure. Go to "hell" , fight a dragon. Become a wizard... there is no wrong way to play and since there are multiplayer servers and a creative mode. You can share what you have created with your virtual legos with the world. Many people have taken it upon them selves to make custom adventure maps for other players to explore and complete. Like i said though... this has to be experienced and i am biased. This is just how i see the game and why it has so much appeal.

oh dear lord o.o don't say, that's where the trouble got doubled; my bro became even more hardcore and pro in that stuff for getting into multi that I'm worried if he ever would study at all after our vacation get finished.
right now, while I'm writing this, he's at the room next door, playing it insatiably.

I made these two demonstration a treasure. well explained, though as obvious we can expect from a game, they usually tend to be simple, fun and user friendly so I'm not that alien, saw it, liked it ... but laddie...that takes too much of my time and can become addictive. (...you could say, like we aren't addictive to something in life at all lol )

I think we might do that and all chip into renting the server. There's like, a huge group of us out here so that might work better than what we've been doing. You are right though... I don't like the places that are too crowded, and I don't like some of the groups that have taken up territories on some of the servers. They can be quite rude, or they're so young and they just noob rage the entire time. >.> Since it's a completely customizable game, I'd prefer to play it at my own leisure.

i doubt there is anyone who plays games regularly who doesn't know about minecraft.. it single handedly brought an entire game genre out of the underground indie scene and made it popular and keeps hauling in awards =P

that being said, yeah i play it from time to time.. not as much as i used to but single player gets a bit boring after a while..
and i have trouble finding a new nice server i like..

    Thanks northernian :D

you guys are missing one essential thing though.

it's like lego yeah, but instead of just looking through your big bag o' lego looking for that one block you need.
you have to set out and put effort into finding that block.
you want a solid gold house? no you can't just say i want the gold block, you gotta set up a mine. then get a good supply of iron to get the tools needed to mine gold ore, then when you finally have the gold ore smelt it to get a gold bar and then smelt several gold bars together to finally get your blocks of gold.
a lot of the appreciation in single player comes from looking at the things you build and knowing the amount of effort you put into building it. it gives a feeling of satisfaction and pride.
and that's just the vanilla game.

then we get multiplayer, now things get huge. literally ANYTHING is possible.
from a giant role play server with factions and battles between factions driven by a storyline (like the server i joined)
to worlds entirely dedicated to building the most awesome and huge things together (what we did in our server while we weren't progressing the story, played Ocarina of Time? remember the part of hyrule castle zelda was in? yeah we build that 1:1. played a link to the past? remember hyrule castle? yeah we build that in it's entirety too, including the basement dungeon.)

you name it and it can be done in multiplayer and if it normally can't be done, there will be a mod that lets you do it anyway.
when the server map was being rebuild for some event we took a break on another temporary map by playing Amnesia: the dark descent meets zombie defense.
we were dropped on a small map that had no enemies whatsoever, only pigs.
they installed a mod that gave everyone a sanity meter, stay in the dark or near enemies too long and your character goes insane, visualized by losing control of your character and hearing random mob noises where there aren't any mobs.
in any case our job was to build a stronghold to outlast a zombie siege.
and after we lost that epically (the admins cheated by being our opponents together with zombies, abusing their god like powers over the world where ever possible) we went back to the story world where there was now a huge epic dungeon build.

oh wait that reminds me, i made a screengrab of one of these story events, no sound just image.. lemme get the link.

The combination of things you can make is pretty cool too.. Some were having trouble making brick, but I seemed to have made brick unknowingly xD

that's what i got the wiki for =P

and lately i have found a new thing to do in single player, i managed to spawn near a village in this world i created so i gave myself the task of protecting the village..
i put the game on hard mode so zombies could destroy doors and build my base near the village.
every night i patrol the place killing any zombie in sight and during the day i repair damaged homes and build more houses so the village can grow

    Thanks northernian :D
