“Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha - not just another magical girl”
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha is an excellent series for any magical girl fan. I've seen Cardcaptor Sakura, Sailor Moon, and Ojamajo Doremi so I feel like I know what makes a good magical girl series. Nanoha starts out like a normal magical girl with her finding her magical device, Raging Heart, and even getting a ferret friend Yuuno to guide her but it quickly changes to something more (most likely because it's only 13 episodes which is good because you never dwell on the monotonous enemy of the day routine).
The characters were surprisingly interesting such as Fate and her abusive mother. It's definitely a series that any magical girl fan with love. It's full of huge magical energy blasts and relatively intense battle scenes. The outfits of the characters, or barrier jackets as they are called, are very cool. It's also have a nice sci-fi element to it with the Space-Time Bureau and the fact they the "magical staff" is actually a piece of technology. Series' story moves at a great pace and never bores.
One thing I think I should make note of is that the henshins are like Sailor Moon where the girls are nude however it isn't like Sailor Moon's nudity where the girls are covered by strange pretty colors.
Overall, great series with magical, technology, and that oh so sentimental theme of friendship. "Raging Heart, please!" "Standby. Ready. Set up!"
