Busou Renkin Review

Kazuki Muto died once… he died while saving a mysterious girl from a monster and so, it’s a mystery why he is still alive. It turns out that the girl he saved, Tokiko Tsumura, saved him in return and replaced his destroyed heart with a buso renkin.
Alchemy warriors utilize buso renkin to destroy homunculus, monsters that feed on humans. As Kazuki is drawn into the world of alchemy by circumstance, can he make the right choices and protect everyone?

From the maker of the famed and phenomenal Samurai X comes Buso Renkin!!! Nyahahaha… quite an entry for a not so amazing anime. In my opinion Renkin didn’t quite follow through with Nabuhiro Watsuki’s Samurai X legacy… even if he utilized most of Samurai X’s character designs as a base for Renkin’s. The art work wasn’t as amazing, maybe because I prefer kimonos over school uniforms…. Even so, the fight scenes were pretty short; the character development wasn’t that great… I wish that Kazuki’s friends were more involved, Tokiko came out as a scythe wielding, not so pretty, damsel in distress, the character design and costumes were really a downer, and what’s with the mecha that looks like the robo from Vision of Escaflowne??? Yayayayay. There were those odd sequences, for example, the part where they kept on showing different shots of the moon, and the part where the characters stated different ways to call Kazuki by his name… What’s with that???
Well, Samurai X is a legend in itself and perhaps trying to make an anime to defeat its fame pressured Nabuhiro Watsuki…. Nonetheless, the varied ways this anime showed some of its predecessor’s elements were funny…. I also have to commend Mr. Nabuhiro
