Devil May Cry by shiinawe
“Devil (and viewer) May Cry ”
This anime series was created by studio Madhouse and the story takes place between the first and fourth games. It consists of twelve episodes and aired in Japan from June 14,2007 to September 6,2007.
Story
About the story, it’s pretty much boring and linear, unlike the games which are more exciting. The main character, Dante voiced by Toshiyuki Morikawa, is a Devil Hunter who has a devil father and a human mother. He own a shop which he named ‘Devil May Cry’ thus the name of the anime and game series. Almost every episode tell about a different mission and a different monster to kill rather easily (even the final enemy). Dante will always be out of money and have a hellish amout of debt, but seems still able to buy his favorite food, pizza and strawberry sundae. This anime featured two important character that didn’t appear in the games. Morrison, who acts as a job search agent for Dante and Patty Rowell, a young girl whom Dante saved in his first mission and later often came to Dante’s office to spent her time. Her role will become somewhat important in the last two episodes. It also featured familiar faces from the game, Trish and Lady. This two female character also work as a Devil Hunter like Dante and adding Dante’s misery with a lot more debt.
In this anime Dante only carry his default weapon, a sword named The Rebellion which he concealed in a guitar case and a pair of pistol named Ebony and Ivory. Every other of Dante’s optional and more cool weapon like Agni and Rudra (double sword), Beowulf (gloves and boots), or Cerberus (nunchaku) didn’t make it’s appearance.
In my opinion, this anime was a total waste and didn’t have a deep story whatsoever. There was no solid background story in every episode. What make it much worse was Dante and friends are too overpowered which make every fight scene only last for a few second. Dante come, Dante see, Dante win. The end.
Similarity : Samurai Deeper Kyo (1 episode, 1 monster to kill)
