Black Jack (2004) Review

The story goes on about a genious surgeon named Black Jack who is miraculously accurate and agile while performing surgeries and charging abnormal high prices for it. However this surgeon is unlicensed due to his disobeying the organization at one point of life during his hospital practice.

It is revealed that black jack (kuuro) suffers a very traumatic childhood, having been raised by his single mother. On a vaccation to a certain deserted island, black jack and his mother suffered great injuries while accidentally coming across a bomb planted in the island, leading to the death of the mother. A genius surgeon revived Black jack and eventually became his teacher.

Black jack lives to exploit the rich upper class people while performing surgeons for them and is usually viewed on as a cold hearted doctor that only goes for money. The truth is however that he barely collects any fees from the poor and uses the fees from the rich to occasionally help the poor. His family includes Pinoko, a human girl inside a body of a machine (kinda) and his rather lazy good for nothing dog.

The plots of black jack is a case to case basis, involving difference cases to cure and has no fixed progressing storyline, but in between solving such cases we would be able to see the hisotry of pinoco, black jack and also some slight mystery not revealed in the begining. Black jack is also actually on a quest to discover who is responsible for the bomb in the island and eventually noticing something more sinister happening behind (read under extreme spoiler if interested)

I would say that overall the story is pretty entertaining, although there is absolutely no fact in it and totally fictional. The way black jack performs surgeries just like that is absolutely fake, he can see arteries and veins with his bare eyes in which usually are pretty microscopic and he cured tubercolosis with surgery (what??). Also having transplanting a totally bodyless pinoco from a pile of organs into a machine. If you dont mind the absurb fiction and wanted to look for something to entertain yourself it is definitely a good go at the series. The characters are well drawn and well expressed.

From all the series and movies i saw concerning black jack it is revealed bits and pieces that the bomb in the island was not an old bomb that was not detonated due to irresponsibility but a sinister plot of his other family. Black Jack's father was in love with his mother but eventually forced to marry the girl of his current family, giving a half sister to black jack. It is the half grandfather(so called) who planned the bombing to threaten the father to be in place as he needed the father's genius capacity.
