Air Gear by niniel1
“No deep, philosophical meanings. Just good fights. Good action, and an interesting story. Mediocre a”
This anime is good past-time entertainment.
An overview- Itsuki "Ikki" Minami is a high school delinquent. He resides with a few other girls in a home-like setting. The girls are the Noyamano sisters, who are his care-takers and have almost adopted him. They are actually the Sleeping Forest AT group.
AT stands for AirTrek. Air Trek are roller blades that have a super-powered motor in them. They go ridiculously fast and are very light, and enable people to ride up vertical walls, fly in the air, and do other amazing things.
Much like the illegal car racing societies of the 1990-2000's, AT riders are frowned upon by the police. This leads to several interesting side-plots where the riders have to run from the police.
A very interesting culture is formed by the AT riders. They form teams, and compete in certain events. Also, the riding culture contains a legend: The top riders, called Kings, each have their own distinctive style, embodied by the "road" they represent. Each King has a regalia as proof of their Kingship. A Regalia is a special pair of AT's with special parts correlating to the style of riding. The legend is that the best of these riders will rise to being the Sky King, the best rider in the world.
Ikki finds out about ATs, creates his own team, and becomes the King of the Wings Road.
The anime does not cover his attempt to become the Sky King, and is cut off soon after he beats the riding record of the past Wind King.
Overall, a very decent anime. Interesting sub-culture with the riders, amazing feats.
Mediocre animation, and an unsatisfying conclusion to the story.
