Gundam SEED by Ensign Yamato
“Entertaining and full of reasons to talk about it~!”
Gundam SEED follows the trials of Kira Yamato, a 16 year-old student. Through a twist of fate ends up thrown into a war, a life much different from his life in neutral territory. He justifies fighting for the purpose of protecting his friends, but even fights against a childhood friend, Athrun Zala. Eventually, Kira begins to ask himself what they should be fighting against, eventually coming to the conclusion that both sides presented in the war are wrong. He then fights against the odds to end the war all together.
Gundam SEED is much more character-based than Gundam Wing, as the series brings you on an emotional roller coaster. As the characters aren't intended to be 'the perfect soldiers', like in Wing, they're presented as normal people with feelings and dreams. There's many heart-wrenching flashbacks of the occurrences in the series, often placed with an emotionally charged song, or at the very end of an episode, willing you to keep watching. There really isn't any 'filler' episodes, or at least none that seem like fillers.
Over all, Gundam SEED is a good anime whether you've seen any other Gundam series before or not. Definitely watch it before Gundam SEED Destiny (which is a storyline that takes place AFTER Gundam SEED ends.) Gundam SEED is one of the best animes I've seen involving mecha. Maybe even as bold to say that it's a classic up there with Neon Genesis Evangelion~!
