Samurai 7 Review

Note:I watched the cantonese Dub version of this anime so I don't know

the english terminology so I'm just roughly translating some things and

using google to find some random info.

Title: Samurai 7
It's a japanese anime.

Studio: Gonzo

Story: 8/10

Samurai 7 is a remake of Akira Kurosawa's movie "Seven Samurai" with a few

small difference (well take out the weak human bandits and replace them

with Mobile Suit Gundams and you'rl have Samurai 7 tongue.gif).

I won't give away too much so I'll just summarise the start of the story:
A village of farmers is forced to give most of the rice they grow to the

bandits every year while the villagers suffer starvation. Tired of this ,

they decide to send 3 villagers to search for Samurais to defeat these

bandits in a nearby city. After many refusal , they managed to recruit

Seven samurais and then the good part begin.

The story starts of quite slow but it goes at fairly good pace after the

samurais appear. There are a few plot twists but not too unpredictable .

Overall , it's a good story with interesting characters.

Animation/Art style 9/10
Like many of GONZO's works , the animation is very good quality with smooth

fight scenes. There are a few scenes where it looks really awkward compared

to the rest of the series such as Rikichi dancing. Also the Robots look out

of place sometimes since they're cel-shaded.

Music 8/10
I think the music really suits this anime and the drums really give me the

feel of Feudal Japan(though there are some times when it gets annoying when

they overuse it). The Ending theme did the same job with those traditional

instruments.

Length 8.5/10
The Series moves at a fairly fast pace and 26 episodes were a good number

for it. The only flaw is that some of the conversation was extended which

probably was to make sure they'll last the whole 26 episodes.

Voice Actors
As always , cantonese dub is awkward and I can tell that I've heard the

voice of most of them from other anime but it still beats most english Dub

even with their lack of staff. (Not commenting about the english dub or the

original japanese voice actors since I never heard them)

Overall 8.5 /10
It's a very good anime and once you start you would want to finish. Not bad

for a remake that gives the main characters jedi-like powers xD.
